Academy Venetian Blinds was established in 1946. Our family purchased it in 1959 and changed the name in 1982 to Academy Window Coverings Co Inc. It has been a family owned and operated ever since. Requested a quote for replacement of 6 windows; online registration for the appt was great, and i received an email right away to confirm my appointment. A couple of days later i got a call from a "Roy Valadez" to discuss my windows - i asked about our upcoming appt and he said yea, we make the appts but i'm across town so if you could just tell me what you need.
I explained the project, and he told me to send him pictures of the existing windows and what i wanted. I did, and that was the last time i heard from him. He did not respond to the text, and did not show up for our scheduled appt. I still haven't heard anything - won't be doing business with these folks.

They charge 250.00 to give you an estimate. His reason: "the gasoline for the drive" To Ruben the drive was literally 19 miles all by the freeway. The last reviewer said she got charge 75.00, I guess they are charging me 250 for inflation cost on gas. I wonder if he drives an 18 wheeler to drive around town. I told him that I am getting different bids and no one has charged me on house estimates.
He flat out told me I was looking for a cheap labor. uh, NO! Getting different bids for a job it's the right thing to do, especially for a job that would be about 14,000.00 dls. I want to know the product warranty, if it meets TDI codes and so on. Your loss and my win. That was an easy decision to eliminate this company from the list.

My friends family used them and did excellent service, which is why I choose them. I, on the other hand, was very disappointed with the service. I was quoted $100 per hurricane shutter window. The first window took nothing at all to fix. He spent 5 mins or less to tighten the turn nob. The other took a little more work because it was missing some screws on the side that attached the hurricane window to the condo.
For 30 mins of work I feel like I was overcharged $295. There was a service fee for the guy to come out of $75 that was not explained to me before hand. Very disappointed and I will not be using them again.

They did an excellent installation, very neat, according to all city codes. They were also very responsive to all questions about the installation of the mechanical parts of the shutters and went out of their way to satisfy my concerns about the remote operation of all installed motorized hurricane shutters.
