Air-Lec was founded in 1921 by a University of Wisconsin Madison graduate named Louie Schoelkopf. Schoelkopf was a an entrepreneur with many business ventures including a Ford dealership, agricultural equipment sales, hospital equipment design, and much more. Schoelkopf found a need for an automatic door operator for customers to more easily drive into his dealerships. This led to the creation of one of the first ever automatic door operators. Louie's design was durable, simple and easy to maintain.
The original Air-Lec Door Operators were the brain child of a businessman who wanted to save time, energy and most importantly, money in the operation of his business. Through decades of evolution, our operators now serve a diverse selection of uses world-wide. From increasing efficiency and dependability to enhancing production and diversity of use, we never stop trying to find ways to deliver more value to our customers.
Air-Lec staff recommend the mechanical contractor provide an air-line of not less than one-half inch pipe and a minimum of 0.3 cubic feet per cycle of free air at 80 psi within five feet of the center of the door opening. A shut-off valve should be installed on the air line to each door opening. Every door opening requires one door operator per door panel, one control kit and one filter regulator kit. Extra control stations are available where more than two control stations per opening are desired.
The Air-Lec Air Seal connects in parallel with the swing operator and functions automatically with the operator. The pressurized cylinder releases the spring tension on the door, allowing it to open. Upon closing, the door contacts the fork, and the powerful spring firmly draws the door tight to prevent air circulation and frosting.
