Don't laugh, years ago we interviewed and hired someone who was looking to relocate from Seattle to be closer to his family by simply communicating with that individual on the net. You can download our Job Application. Mail it to us or send it to us as an attachment via email. We offer a very comprehensive medical and dental benefits package as well as a 401K retirement plan.
If you were expecting to see pictures and descriptions of doors, windows and hardware that we currently inventory at our location, you are in for a disappointment. What makes more sense is to link you to the vendors that we do business with on a daily basis. Remember, ordering what you want and need constitute a large percentage of our business.
A beautiful home deserves a beautiful door as its focal point. It sets the tone for the entire house, and establishes a feeling of warmth, style, and elegance. Our experienced staff also understands that some products are more applicable than others. A home on the California coast or in the Sierra's requires doors that can withstand the elements.
Selecting new windows for your home can be a difficult task. The possibilities are endless. Unfortunately, not all windows are created equal. When making your selection, you should consider the following: what type of windows are you looking for? Wood, vinyl or metal? Years ago, the choices were limited.

I am a former employee at GH slack off. I would not recommend using their services. They thrive off harrasment. Numerous safety hazards throughout the warehouse. Sawdust everywhere would not take much to start a fire in 100 degree heat. Drivers are irresponsible driving at dangerous speeds abrupt stops with heavily loaded flatbeds and poorly maintained trucks.

Material is always damaged and stored improperly and unsafe. Not to mention exposed insulation with fiberglass just floating around. And welding equipment being used. Poor customer service and extremely poor management. Material constantly falling off trucks due to aggressive driving. I WOULD RECCOMMEND SEEKING OUT DOORS AND WINDOWS FROM ANOTHER COMPANY. THE BULK MATERIAL THEY GET FOR DIRT CHEAP AND MARK UP THEIR PRICE 300% TERRIBLE COMPANY.

Worst customer service. My husband and I entered the store with no idea where to go, we had to ask someone which way to go after obviously walking back and forth. We decided to look anyways since we are in desperate need for interior doors for our den, still no acknowledgement from anyone. We had questions and no one around to answer. There were staff laughing and chatting in the back offices and staff at the front desk doing the same.

Aside from their poor customer service skills, there were not a lot of options or at least non I would have any knowledge of considering everyone was too busy hanging out to show us.

Your Driver today at approximately 1223pm-1227pm was speeding at speeds of over 60-85 on Hagemen tail gating cars pressing them then starting them down at the stop lights. WHITE FORD F-150 Caucasian Male with sunglasses and there is NO SUN OUT TODAY, Facial hair full beard. Vehicles plate # 8R67333 huge sticker of the company GH SLACK & sons on the tail gate.

Pretty ignorant to be driving this dangerous and have your company name blasted on the truck. On Olive Dr & kundsen By the 711 he almost hit a grey lexus tail gating practically FORCING the vehicle to pull over. Then as the driver sat at the light he tried to confront the Lexus driver for who knows what psychotic reason

The customer service here is top notch. We came here to pick out baseboards for our whole entire home. The contractor who installed them told us we could come here to see all of our options and to let him know what we wanted so he could buy it and install it. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted. The employee walked us over to the baseboard sample area.

He explained to us the different options and styles and answered all of our questions. He checked stock of several items for us and helped us to eventually decide on which style of baseboards when wanted to use. As far as purchasing, we didn't have any experience with that as our contractor bought them here. We did like the excellent customer service and we will be back if we need anything G.H Slack and Son offers. They have been around for many, many years and I have heard nothing, but great things about them.

While I know that most of the staff here are knowledgeable about the products they sell, getting someone to talk to you is, most times, a chore. Then, getting pricing is also problematic as you speak to one person and they seem to contradict someone else.

Worst customer service I've experienced in my 20 years of construction. They only care about you up until they get your money then crickets after that. Stay away and find a more reputable company that respects its customers and will go the extra mile to satisfy their customers.

I highly recommend GH Slack & Son--huge selection, great staff, super knowledgable (much more so than Home Depot or Lowe's). GH Slack supplied the doors, windows, hardware, moulding, shower glass and mirrors for my house and it looks beautiful! I will go to Slack when I buy doors and windows for my next house too :)

Did not have a good experience. Purchased a home that was broken into during escrow. They came out and did a quote. Once escrow closed, I called to pay for the quote. They had incorrect contact information so I updated at that time and they charged my card. I also asked them to make a second quote so I could replace all the windows in the house (They never did this).

I was told the glass would arrive about a week later and they would call for install. It's close to Christmas so that delays things. Understandable just let me know when to expect and I will make due until that time. It's winter time and the winter air draft makes thing's very cold so of course the soonest possible. This is where things went south.

We didn't hear back so we called in to check the status.and they had the incorrect contact information still. Ok, maybe clerical error no biggie so I gave it once again. They were going to check on status and call me right back, But never called me back. Because I didn't get a call back, I called in 2x's more over the next week, and each time the contact information was still incorrect!

And both times, "they would check the order status and call me right back." Well, this morning they came to install the windows, and guess what? They can't because of shutters on the doors and they don't touch them! Why in the world would you not say this at any point before install day? Why wasn't this comment in the notes on the quote so all knew this was an issue?

I've replaced a few windows over the years and comments about issues are clearly communicated in the quote. So now they will not install my windows, and I am stuck with 2 doors that are broken with winter air coming right through. The funny thing is that one of the reason for the delays is that they told us that the person who did the quote has to install as they know the specifics of the job!

Honestly, my initial experience with an employee was very disappointing. However, a wonderful employee, Justin, redeemed the reputation of GH Slack and Sons. Very respectful, very smart and very helpful. I was glad that he was around to assist me when the other employee was out for lunch. He helped get the orders straightened out because there was a mistake and while it took my original order to get processed after multiple phone calls and visits with the other employee for almost 2 months, he managed to get the correct door levers in 5 days! I contacted GH slack and sons for a problem I was having with my sliding patio door. I have shopped here before, and always found anything/everything I needed to make the repair or to replace the doors. In this case, they said they could not help me, but they recommended me to a local person who specialize in older patio doors. While they did not make money off of my visit this time, they did help me as a Customer, and that is worth a five star review. I got the help I needed, and it was courteous and very professional. Thank you!

They have horrible customer service. My spouse ordered some replacement glass window panes for a French door that were broken and planned to use them to have the work done. Spoke to Erick, he kept saying he would call back. He never did. Kept losing our number and had wrong contact information on file. It took four phone calls for updates and to finally schedule, then they canceled on the first scheduled day.

When the Installer finally showed up, he said he couldn't complete the job because the doors have plantation shutters. Should have been an easy fix, but they never told us they couldn't work around them (they were there when Job was quoted), nor did they tell us to remove them. Just could not complete the work they quoted. The funny thing is, after they canceled I had to call another glass company out.

When they arrived, they said the could do the work no problem. No need to remove the shutters. The nail or staple that holds the Stiles to French doors are on the outside by design so windows can be repaired without having to remove the shutters. The shutters also were not in contact with the frame that held the glass, so even if you had to go from the shutters side it would not have been a problem. Simple, easy, something any installer should be capable of doing.

Their installer had no clue. Just threw his hands up and decided he wouldn't do the work. He was at our house no more than 10 minutes. As with all the negative reviews, their management team and owner (Terry) place the blame on the customers and do not take any responsibility. We had to call another glass company. We tried speaking with GH over the phone before the installer left but they said it's our problem to fix not theirs.

Save your money, save your family unnecessary headaches, go with another company. Just because they have been around a long time doesn't mean they are of great quality or customer service. So unfortunate because I love supporting local businesses.

Hunter Witcher and Dustin Walker earn this 5 star rating. I needed a patio door locking mechanism that no one in Bakersfield had in stock. We were moving out of the house and the moving van was loading our contents. I went to three different businesses looking for this rare part. My last stop and hope was G.H. Slack & Sons at 11:50am Saturday 10 minutes before they closed. BEST STOP I made that day. Dustin searched everywhere in the store for this item, stating he didn't have in stock.

Hunter stepped in and saved the day! Hunter, my new best friend of the day, went into the upstairs storage searched for my part and found it. I was overjoyed as I desperately needed that part. These 2 employees worked after closing time to help me. They are a HUGE asset to your company. They exceeded customer support expectations, in my opinion. Hunter Witcher and Dustin Walker, I appreciate all your efforts that day!

This company has been around for years, I first started coming here in the early 80's, as it has been long established as a quality door and window store in Bakersfield. Chris at Slacks and Sons was very helpful in selecting doors for my home; I recommend this company for your home entry needs.

I recently ordered 300 linear feet of baseboard and round corners for my home through GH Slack and Sons. I called on a Monday and placed my order and set up a delivery date for that Wednesday at 10 am. Wednesday came and my baseboards had not been delivered by the time I was told. I called around noon and was told they were not informed of the 10am delivery time I set with the sales rep on Monday.

They also advised me that my baseboard was not in stock. I was told Monday the baseboard and corners were in stock. I was advised an order was being delivered on Thursday the following day and they could deliver then. I confirmed with GH Slack and Sons rep that my round corners were in stock and would be delivered with the baseboards on Thursday. I was told yes. Thursday came and I received a call the baseboards were in, but now my round corners were out of stock.

I called and spoke with the manger at GH Slack and Sons and requested a discount on my order and to make sure my order would be delivered by that Friday. Friday came and my corners were finally delivered. Due to poor service and three unacceptable issues in one week I was delayed in receiving my order causing me to move back the contractor scheduled to perform the install.

To add to the poor experience my refund was never issued and I had to call to have the refund finally returned a week later. In my opinion, there is no excuse for poor customer service. Not only was I given the run around, but I never received and apology. I was treated as though I was in wrong as a customer. The manager with whom I spoke dropped the ball on my refund even after I called him the day product was to be delivered to verify delivery and refund. I would highly recommend you DO NOT purchase any product through GH Slack and Sons. They do not care about customer service or following through with what they say.

I purchased all my windows and doors through Slack and sons for my remodel in Santa Barbara Ca. It was a good experience, even when I ordered a wrong size on my windows they promptly ordered my new size and I got it right away. I meet with Chris to place my hardware and door order and his suggestions were spot on to achieve my Modern Farmhouse style. Thanks again to all that helped! You should see my beautiful slide back door system it greatly improved my view.

Will never use this place again. Went in with measurements for interior doors and for bedroom closet doors for a quote. They quoted me a reasonable price so I decided to buy from them. When I asked them to please call me the following day to confirm a drop off day to match my old doors the failed to do so. Finally got my doors dropped off and was able to pick up the next day only to be short 4 doors for two sets of closets and was told that I didn't specify my quantity needed but could order them no problem (250.00) dollars more.

Which I did not do. Got doors home and began to install them. 1 out of 5 doors fit with no modification needed. Very frustrating when they had my old doors to use as a pattern to fit. Customer service here sucks and so does their shop service. Will use The Molding Bin from now on

We bought Emtek locks for our home from slack and sons and just absolutely love them. they were a little expensive but we've have had them now for several years and they are the best investment we ever made. They require a combination and work like a cell phone screen. You touch this pad and then you punch in your combination. No buttons. No mechanical parts.

They are all electronic and that makes it works so well for our house. Especially if we aren't there and someone in our family needs to get in -- we just give them the code.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Beware, they "special order" all of their products and refuse to take blame or credit when the doors or windows come in a different size than agreed upon. For instance, I ordered 2 sliding glass doors over the phone and ran to their store on my lunch to pay for them ($2800 worth). I ordered 6 foot wide sliding glass doors and 5 foot wide were delivered.

They made an error on the paperwork and claimed it was my fault for not catching it on the specs page (I'm a homeowner). Needless to say, they refused to take the doors back but promised to give me a "good deal" on a new set of doors. The salesman was rude and his supervisor was less than helpful. At it stands, I disputed the charges with my credit card company who advised me to have Slack and Sons come and get the doors, as I had been refunded the charges.

They refused and said to wait and see how this "plays out". I went to Home Depot and bought both doors for $1400 delivered! What do you know. Home Depot has a RETURN POLICY should I not be satisfied! However, Home Depot delivered what was promised. I will be spreading my bad experience like wildfire in hopes that no one is treated the way our family was!

In response to what you will read from the owner below: This order was done over the phone. I requested that the doors be 6.0 feet in width, not 60 inches. I admitted my fault in that I did not review the specs page as carefully as I should (remember I was coming on my lunch break to submit payment for an order that was detailed over the phone). When I was offered a $1000 refund for an order nearly $2800, I kindly declined. Instead, I countered that me meet in the middle and split the bill at $1400.

I was denied and told I was better off seeking resolution through my credit card company. Just to note, I have yet to receive a call from the owner in effort to resolve the issue nor have I received an apology for the mix-up. Play it safe fellow consumers, go to a big box store (Lowes or Home Depot) who have a fair return policy.

We have purchased our windows and doors through slack and sons both in the past during a remodel, and recently with our new addition. We told this company that we wanted windows for an addition. They sent us a bid that included the technical description of the windows. all jargon that made little sense to us. They delivered remodel windows for our new construction remodel.

When we called and emailed them to try and return these windows for the correct ones, they accused us of lying and told us that an exchange was not possible. They offered that we pay them an additional $1200 to swap out the window frames. We will never use Slack and Sons again in the future. Their customer service is terrible.

Called to see about getting some new screens put on my windows for my home. The man on the phone (Bernard?) was really friendly and offered I come in and take a look at their variety of mesh styles. I was amazed at their walk through gallery and almost tempted to buy new doors and door handles for my entire home! Beautiful shop and good customer service! My go to guys from here on out for any door or window purchasings!
