Where do I even start? We had our garage roll-up door repaired several times by Vortex at a premium price, but the door kept breaking down. When we asked why the door was breaking down we were told that the end locks on the door were damaged, so on our last repair they performed ($5,000 total) they changed 14 slats and a couple of damaged end locks they claimed were the reason the door broke down.

Recently the door broke down again and when we called to see if the door was covered under warranty we were told, "No, because your warranty ended 7 days ago and it would cost $400 plus to come out and troubleshoot the door." We decided to get a quote instead and they quoted us $1800 to replace the end locks that they found to be broken and to realign the door, which confused us a bit since we thought those were the repairs that were made on the previous repair.

We decided to get a second opinion from a different company and they informed us that Vortex had cut the side rail (where the door guides itself to slide down properly) in half which should never ever happen and is most likely where end locks got caught and damaged the door. They quoted us $876 to fix, which is half of what Vortex quoted us. Never will we use this company again nor will we recommend their work! Stay clear!

AVOID THIS COMPANY, especially the Long Beach Office. While the technicians came to our building and gave a detailed quote, installation has been a nightmare. This has been two months of back and forth. First, they ordered the wrong door (not double-checking specifications), then they cancelled the appointment. This is a building in the downtown Long Beach area where multiple residents live.cancelled appointment have affected entry/exit for more that 40+ residents for this building. We have yet to see or have our door installed.

This company is the one to avoid in any situation. Go to find another one for better service and price. I called them to check out three doors and give a quote. They came in and did not do anything except take pictures. The tech told me he can't do anything because he had no knowledge about the doors I have. Then the bill came in for 400 dollars for doing nothing. I will report to BBB about the company too. Less people get fooled is better.

They are pricy. Unfortunately HoA forced using them which cost us double of others!

I feel so so stupid right now that I didnt read the reviews here before I called them. The guy came in to took out the lock for almost 2 hours while I can easily do it in 15 mins. Then they send me an offer to fix the lock for $1350 not include the labor. Today I got an invoice from them that I was charge ~$480 for 3 hours of labor. Shame on you Vortex Doors for making money like this from us.

I don't recommend anyone deal with these crooks! I called for an estimate on some security gates guy quoted $25000! Thought there might have been a miss understanding so I asked for new quote for just materials and was quoted $18000! Insanity! $12487 was highest quote and 11000 was lowest from 4 other gate company's and that's installed! Vortex wants 18000 for just materials! I'm all about paying someone for their skilled trade but I'm not about highway robbery!

I've had the pleasure of being a customer of Vortex for some years now. I appreciate the professionalism and friendliness of their staff. I've had various technicians come to my business. Matt P being one of them. Well done.

We had an awesome experience with Vortex Doors today! They came recommended by another facilities company and were very thorough and professional. The 2 technicians that came out to our office, The Stephanie Younger Group, explained what was wrong with our double doors and fixed them in a couple of hours. I appreciated the customer service, quality of work, and value. I would use them again for sure.

The issue was never resolved and your repair lasted about 1.5 years before the new unit failed again. So I found a local repair company that was 1/4 of your price and they came out and did a wonderful job and the door has been problem free ever since. I paid them $200 for the replacement of the same part I paid you guys $740 for. Thank you again Vortex for being highly over priced and providing horrible service.

Called these guys out to see why my door wouldn't open automatically. $700+ later they said it is a position sensor. And they were ordering that for $300+ and who knows how much more to install it. I called Assa Abloy. They said it's not the position sensor but the motor. New motor installed for $900. Also got a quote from Vortex on a back door install.

They quoted me $12K. Assa Abloy did it for $2500. These guys are a joke. I paid Vortex for $550 for they're worthless service call and to fix the lock that was sticking (after which none of my keys worked so I had to go have more made). RIDICULOUS! Should have called Assa Abloy first.

RIP OFF, RIP OFF, RIP OFF This company is a rip off and you should stay away. It is up to you if you want to be ripped off by scam artists. They are overpriced and tries to charge a high service fee in order to accept their offer. They did not do any work. just came by and looked at the part (which is enclosed) and stated it cost $1100 to repair it.

When I said no, they said they will charge $300 for service fee for coming over. They never metioned it when i called. They are rip off and you should stay away from this company.

This review is based solely on a rep who came to my job. They did not do work on our door. This man who works for vortex came into my office and TOLD me he did not ask, that he was there to update the sticker on our garage door. I asked him if his company had done work on our garage door before and he said no. He said "I'm just here to update the sticker." I said, I will take the sticker and he said "no I will put the sticker on myself" and I said "no, I can not have you put on the sticker if my boss is not here.

My boss has final say." He got offended and left. My concern is why will a company who has never worked on our door demand to put on their sticker on our door? I understand it could serve as advertisement but to come in and act like its a requirement is not cool. If they wanted to use us as advertisement they need to come in with a different approach not come in and have a sense of entitlement over our property.

I am little concerned, after reading all the reviews. (Please view edit at the bottom.) I had some work done yesterday (4.6.2018) on the front door of our condo building. The door needed adjustment and a bottom latch replaced. The young man completed was nice enough and I signed the work order as president of the HOA in the beginning and when the work was completed BUT I NOTICED when I got back to my unit there was no cost on listed on my receipt, hence, I assumed that my treasures who placed the order, had the estimated price and I have to wait for her to return, as she is out of town for the weekend. Today, 4.7.2018 the door the door is broken - it won't allow anyone to buzz in their guests, (it was functioning perfectly prior to the servicing) so I assume that something was not reconnected yesterday.

I was told about this by one of the tenants at 6:15 4.7.2018 in the evening. This is a ten unit building and people now have to walk to the front door to open it for their guests. Needless to say, I am concerned about this matter after reading some of the complaints. I have a call into Culver City Vortex for Monday, as we are not willing to pay the astronomical fees to have someone come out on an emergency basis.

I hope they can put my mind at ease on Monday - I WILL UPDATE THIS POST. ADDENDUM: STEVE AT VORTEX CAM THROUGH LIKE A CHAMP. He called first thing Monday morning and send out one of his best guys to fixed the door AT NO COST to us, which is very much appreciated. Apparently, in replacing a part on Friday somehow screwed up the wiring for the door.

It was fixed. Steve also gave me the cost for the call on Friday, (which I should have made myself clear about BEFORE the service call) I agreed to the cost, over the phone, and we are in like Flynn. I have to say, that I really appreciate the efficiency that Steve utilized to get this done. They will be recommended, going forward. I have also asked them for an estimate on updating the front security door. I would not have done that if Steve had not taken care of this business in the manner in which he did. Thank you, Steve - Martin, and Mike.

Stay away 600 $ only to look at the problem, This only to diagnose, and 800$ after 5pm.they don't even promise to repaire the door.as I asked their employee before he start he said he can't promise to repaire but he will give recommandations, also it is not the final price there's additional payment if it take them so long, not specified in advance.meaning I felt that the company is trying to take from me the maximum money they can using misleading language, shop around first, This company show up first online, dos not mean they are the best.

I give them 3 stars for getting back to me over the weekend with a quote over the phone, that was the nice part. The bad part was the 1 star price, $2000 to replace a hollow steel door. I called the guy I use to repair fences and he did it for $550. I concur with the comments about high prices. I opted to have him do 2 more steel doors and the price was still less than the $2000 I got quoted.

In response to their response, I was given a return call not asking for a ballpark figure. I was told under no uncertain terms just replacing the door itself was $2000, not $1700-$2000. This is for a standard 36 wide door. I was even educated that it was called a hollow steel door. If I wanted the framing it would be extra. Again, I opted to have 3 hollow steel doors installed for less than the price they quoted for a single door.

The service I received from Vortex was extremely poor. All that was needed at my restaurant was the boarding of a door. The technician took over three hours to complete this task. I have no problem paying a high price for quality work, but $540 dollars for boarding a door is ridiculous. All the technician did, was measure the plywood, and clamp it to the door.

That took TWO hours (the other hour was to buy the supplies). I would expect that a professional company that charges $65 per 30 min of labor would be efficient enough to spend less than for such a simple task. The technician worked extremely slow (perhaps bc of the $65 per 30 min). Additionally, I caught him smoking a cigarettes two different times while he was measuring and cutting the plywood.

How professional is that? I paid for his cigarette break? What's worse, since it was one person, he had to ask for my help to clamp the plywood to the door. I imagine that if I had been busy and unable to help, the job would have cost me an extra 30 minutes or more. Its just ridiculous. I also had to call that same day to make a complaint because the technician left at 4:00pm, but on the work order he wrote that he left the job site at 4:15pm.

To top it off, he said that the company would send a proposal to complete the repairs the door. He said that the job would take all day, and he warned me that he would try but not to expect the door to look as it was before because the damage was significant. Well, guess what? Like I said, I dont mind paying extra money for quality work. So I hired Storefront Door Repair instead.

They send three guys to do the job. They came in 6am, and finished the entire job in 3.5 hours, well before our business opening hours, like the promised! And our entrance actually looks better that it did before. It was a few hundred more, but well worth it!

DEFINITELY A RIP OFF! Vortex does work for us at an airport and sometimes have to repair our hangar door for various reasons. Every time they come out we tell them we have 20 foot doors and they will need some sort of ladder/lift in order to service the doors appropriately. Without fail they show up with no ladder and then tell us they need to drive back to the shop in order to pick one up.

This whole time they are considered "on the clock" and charge us for labor hours while they are making trips back and forth to the shop. Furthermore, they repair things that we have not authorized to be fixed, work as slowly as possible to get paid for more labor hours and then try to upsale you on other repairs that they offer. If you have the ability to, I would use someone else.

We have a building off Sepulveda in LA and we have to call different service people from plumbers, exterminators, drinking water and lock and security. I have found that Vortex is by far the most professional and knowledgeable and they do everything on any door. They take care of our big parking garage door and our glass entrance doors, which are all wired for controlled access.

They actually answer the phone live and they show up the same day if needed. As I was typing the review I noticed a few not so great reviews. Mostly people who didn't ask for a cost. Vortex is one of the few companies that offers free estimates the same day and if you want to spend less they have come up with cheaper solutions and quick fixes if you want.

They are in most cities in the west and have been doing this for over 70 years and they advertise "family owned". They must be doing some things right. Don't know what everyone else is talking about, but I am a fan!

BEWARE OF A RIPOFF. They quoted us one rate over the phone. We agreed to a $300 repair and they charged us for a $677 repair because their guys came after hours. It was not an emergency, we could've easily waited until the next day. It wasn't the service guy's fault at all. I could tell he just wanted to fix the door. He also seemed used to customer's getting duped by the office. Regardless, we won't use again and do not recommend.

So the battle continues. They have repeatedly called me to remind me of the bill. After one such conversation with Miriam I discovered that all initial calls to the call center are recorded. I said great.listen to mine and my repeated request for an estimate. As I explained to her I asked and even demanded an estimate, even a guess. LOL Now they are sending it to the collection agencies.

We will go to court on this. There bad business practice will finally be exposed. Thanks to those who have left me private messages and hopefully the guy I found will be able to help you.

Had to call Vortex out to fix a door this week. They showed up the same day and replaced my door closer. I have managed buildings for over 20 years and if you need service on a door, any door this company is the only one that will show up and actually knows what they are doing. The people are always nice and they send uniformed people who are trained.

I have had other people come to my building and they are usually scary. They have been around since the 1930s around LA. Must be doing something right. If you are not sure ask for a free estimate and they send a rep who will email a price. They pretty much do anything on any door in a business or warehouse.
